Ocean Current Routing & Weather Forecasting
Horizon Marine and ImpactWeather provide an integrated ocean current routing and weather forecasting service package to support all offshore asset relocation projects. The service package is designed to increase levels of efficiency during an asset relocation project by avoiding restrictive ocean currents and following favorable ocean currents to reduce the duration of the voyage, conserve fuel, and ultimately help mitigate total transit costs.
Ocean current routing reports are submitted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while weather forecasts are submitted twice per day during while the asset is in transit. In addition to the submission of reports, Horizon will provide the asset with a battery-powered GPS beacon which will transmit one position per hour through the Iridium network of satellites. By installing one of Horizon’s GPS beacons, the hourly position as well as all oceanographic and meteorological data can be viewed on one interactive, password-protected “mapper” accessible by internet connection.
Over the past five years, the routing and weather service package has helped our clients conserve time underway as well as reap significant savings on fuel costs. We strive to work side by side with our clients to help them understand the nature and benefit of knowing what the environmental conditions are during a transit, when to take advantage of those conditions and when to steer clear.
